When the vernacular speaks of "squaring the circle", it is usually about the description of an unsolvable task. The problem with a motorcycle helmet is to enable the highest level of safety and at the same time a carefree lightness. The watchword used to be: full face helmet versus open face helmet. But the French helmet designers are setting new standards with the Shark EVO GT modular helmet. We also show why it means "both - and" and where the EVO GT ranks in relation to the Shark ONE 2.
Shark EVO GT - open biking, "works" with this helmet
First things first. If you are thinking of buying a flip-up helmet, take a look at the so-called homologation. This states whether the motorcycle helmet can also be driven when it is folded up. Just like with the Shark EVO GT, which has double homologation (P / J). How does this work? Here is an essential feature of the folding mechanism. After unlocking at the bottom of the helmet, the chin section not only moves upwards, but also backwards into the neck area. This minimizes wind resistance and turbulence in the top of the head. The folding mechanism patented by Shark makes removing the chin part obsolete for trips in the open face helmet. Simply fold it back - and enjoy the jet helmet feeling.
Safety and comfort aspects with the Shark EVO GT
The shell of the Shark EVO GT is made of robust and durable fiberglass. For a perfect adaptation to the morphology of the biker, the helmet sizes XS to XXL share two shell sizes. The new modular helmet is very stylish and is equipped with subtleties down to the last detail - which is expressed, for example, by the two-part spoiler on the back of the head. That already indicates the sophisticated ventilation system. A fine detail here: the magnetic wind deflector in the chin area, which also prevents wind turbulence here and lets out cold air.
The decades of experience in building flip-up helmets can also be seen in the visor. The Shark EVO GT is equipped with a very stable visor of optical class 1. The view through country roads, serpentines and mountain panoramas can fall without distortion and fogging. The Pinlock prepared visor is supported by the additional Sun Visor. The sun visor can be optimally positioned with a simple movement using a slider on the top of the helmet, even when wearing gloves. Since the Shark EVO GT modular helmet is aimed at tourers, not only the climatic but also the hygienic conditions in the helmet had to be convincing. The modular helmet is equipped with a removable and washable inner lining, which is also suitable for people who wear glasses thanks to the “Shark Easy Fit”. The micrometer ratchet lock secures the helmet on the biker's head. Last but not least, the preparation for a Bluetooth intercom system should be mentioned. Shark offers an in-house entertainment system - SHARKTOOTH!
Conclusion : The Shark EVO GT flip-up helmet with the ECE 22.05 (P / J) test mark proves to be a real modular helmet, with which the biker can also travel safely in the open face version. The improvements compared to the predecessor come from the experiences in the wind tunnel and from exchanges with bikers. The Shark EVO GT is now more aerodynamic, lighter and the visor is even better protected from scratches.
