RIDING CLOTHING AS PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT WITH CHIC

Rider and horse are in constant exchange during the ride and give a harmonious picture. The stylish riding clothing not only serves to round off this picture optically, riding jackets and riding vests in particular play an important role when it comes to safety. With us you will find out, among other things, what is important for a good riding jacket or riding vest, how a riding vest has to fit compared to a riding jacket, what is behind the term "riding airbag riding vest" and which standard the protective riding vest has to comply with. Have fun gaining new insights.

WHEN DO I NEED A RIDING JACKET?

That depends on your temperature sensitivity and the weather conditions. In midsummer you will probably use a riding vest. But especially in the transitional periods , the riding jacket can give you a significant plus in comfort. At the latest when it gets really cold in the stable or when riding out, the transitional jacket has to give way to the winter riding jacket . Incidentally, riding jackets and riding waistcoats not only offer warmth, but also protection in the event of a possible drop with the appropriate riding protectors.

WHAT KIND OF RIDING JACKET FOR WHAT PURPOSE?

The riding jackets can be roughly divided into three categories:

  • Summer and transitional jackets
  • softshell riding jackets
  • winter riding jackets

THE SUMMER AND TRANSITION JACKET

With a transitional jacket you can respond to the climatic peculiarities in spring and autumn. Because riding with a light rain jacket is typical in changeable weather with wind and short rain showers, when mild temperatures prevail. Riding jackets for men in a material mix of Kevlar and buffalo leather could be an option for you.

THE SOFTSHELL JACKET

One could almost say that the softshell jacket was specially designed for riders . Anyone who moves a lot outdoors is sometimes exposed to adverse weather conditions, but wants optimal freedom of movement , especially when riding. The stretchable and ergonomically tailored softshell material of the riding jacket meets these requirements. If the thin summer riding jacket is too cool and the thickly lined riding jacket is too warm, then the solution is - softshell riding jacket.

THE WINTER RIDING JACKET

Riding out in snow and sleet as well as stable work in freezing conditions - that's when you need a reliable riding jacket for the winter . This clothing for riders, also known as a thermal riding jacket, has excellent heat-insulating properties thanks to the imitation down lining. Riding with winter jackets that are equipped with a cozy hood made of imitation fur and a stand-up collar that protects against drafts offer additional comfort with riding jackets for women . Warm riding underwear should also not go unmentioned at this point.

THE RIDING VEST – THAT’S WHAT MATTERS

While the riding jacket can be a little more casual (e.g. college riding jacket), the riding vest should fit snugly . It is often worn under clothing, as this is intended to achieve a special protective effect. Riding with a protective vest is mandatory when jumping over terrain obstacles. A vest that complies with the EN 13158 standard is recommended. Tip : Since the material adapts to the morphology through body heat, it makes sense to put on the vest for a while after the ride.

HOW SHOULD THE RIDING VEST FIT?

Thanks to the right riding gloves , you have a firm grip on the reins, which speaks for a safe ride. Should a fall nevertheless occur, the rider can roll forward with a protective vest that fits perfectly . The riding vest is dimensioned in such a way that it does not hit the top of the cervical spine or the bottom of the saddle when riding.

WHAT IS AN AIRBAG JACKET?

A fall from a saddle occurs when jumping from a great height. Riding helmets and vests with riding protectors help to protect vital organs such as the spine. The airbag riding vest offers particularly effective protection. In its original form, it hardly differs from a classic riding vest. But in the event of a fall, gas cartridges inflate the appropriate air cushions within fractions of a second.

RIDING WITH AN AIRBAG VEST?

This works very simply. The deployment line of the airbag vest, for example, is attached to the saddle in such a way that it does not hinder you while riding. In the event of a drop, this connection separates and the firing mechanism is triggered. And it goes so fast that you land on an "air cushion". Note : Always replace the CO2 gas cartridge after a fall. And when dismounting normally, always remember to first “Leave off!”
